HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Mary C. Cassidy, 73, of 261A Osborne Rd., Harrisville, died peacefully following a long battle with health matters, on May 4, 2018 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC.

Born on June 30, 1944 in Ogdensburg, NY, a daughter of John J. and Dorothy Helen (Arquette) Netto, she was a 1962 graduate of Watertown High School.  In 1963, she graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown with an LPN Degree.

She married Thomas H. Cassidy on September 21, 1984 in St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.

After obtaining her LPN Degree, Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Madonna Home in Watertown, and later accepted a nurse’s position at Mercy Hospital in Watertown where she worked for a number of years.  Her last position in her nursing career was working as a hospice nurse for Jefferson County Hospice travelling throughout the county taking care of terminally ill patients.  She retired in 1999 after 36 years of faithful service.

Mary was a communicant of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Harrisville, and was a member of the Lake Bonaparte Chapter of the Red Hat Society, as well as the Tuesday Night Girl’s Group in Harrisville.

Mary will be remembered for being a wonderful visitor, especially on the phone, who always stayed in touch with family and friends. She loved wintering with her husband in their condo in North Myrtle Beach, SC, and spending time with her brother and sister-in-law who wintered nearby.

In addition to her loving husband, “Tom” of almost 34 years, she is survived by her son, Robert Lynch of Moravia, NY; two grandsons, Bobby and Kevin; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ronald (Addie) Netto, and Anthony (Denise) Netto, all of Watertown, and Robert Netto, of Syracuse; her sister, Elizabeth Thompson, of Watertown, and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gary Thompson, and her former sister-in-law, Judy Netto.

Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Harrisville Community Cemetery, Harrisville.  All are invited to attend a funeral luncheon which will be held in the church’s Social Hall after Mary’s burial.

Dear Tom,

Mary lived life with great optimism, great passion, and cared for everybody, even more than she cared for herself. Mary's sneaky (dark) side and her comedic quips, we're always able to make me laugh. Even spometimes when we shouldn't have. And those were the best laughs.

Every time I used to visit, Mary and I would often leave you at the camp, and get some Aunt/nephew shopping afternoons together, spending all your money, and laughing about it.

You both took care of each other so well, in a million different ways, for 34 years, and you did so, by being each other's best friend. Your's was a marriage that others should envy, and certainly have.

Although Mary was taken from us far too early, make no mistake, these were the best days of Mary's life, with a few squabbles, as to be expected. And those squabbles only happened, because it took you time, before you'd admit she was right, because she always was right.

We'll all miss her terribly, because she was always so warm and welcoming, and loved to fill the house, with guests, and make sure they are until, they could eat no more. Every friend i brought with me, always felt welcome, like they were family, too.

Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of us who loved her, forever.

She was one of my favourite people, and I miss her, a lot.

My sincerest condolences for this terrible loss, to you.

Kindest regards,

Jamie 9
