Mrs. Marie F. Nortz, 93, of Croghan, died in her home on Monday evening, March 18, 2024 where she was in the company of family and under the care of Hospice of Lewis County.
Marie was born April 23, 1930 in Croghan, a daughter of the late Percy H. and Frances F. (Bush) Scott. She was graduated from Fr. Leo High School in 1948. On November 20, 1948, Marie married her beloved Harry L. Nortz at St. Stephen’s Church, the union was officiated by Fr. Amadeus Burke. Harry predeceased her in 2008.
First and foremost, Marie was a mother, raising seven children alongside Harry. She worked in the cafeteria at Beaver River Central School for 10 years, from 1970 -1980. Marie was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church as well as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, many different crafts and loved to travel.
Marie is survived by three sons, Harry J. (Linda) Nortz, Patrick J. (Helen) Nortz and Scott J. (Tammy) Nortz, daughters, Barbara J. (Paul) Cherbini and Pamela M. (Michael) Barretta, daughters-in-law, Patsy and Lisa Nortz, 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Paul (Alice) Scott and two sisters, Joan Ellen Kimmis and Rosemary (Frank) Mills and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband Harry and parents Percy and Frances, Marie was predeceased by twin sons, Daniel and Donald, who died at birth, and sons, Ronald C. Nortz, who died in 2023, and Michael A. Nortz, who died in 2016, as well as three brothers, Bernard, Leonard and Richard Scott and a sister, Alice Ann Illingsworth.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 25, 2025 at 12:00 pm at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan with Fr. Donald Manfred, celebrating.
The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You” to Hospice of Lewis County for the care rendered to Marie in her final days.
