CROGHAN, NY ~ Theresa A. Lehman, 95, a World War II veteran, formerly of NYS Rt. 812, Croghan, died peacefully Sunday night, December 2, 2018, in the presence of her loving family at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since March, 2015.
Born May 3, 1923, in Croghan, NY, a daughter of Alexander and Katherine (Wolff) Beaton, she graduated from Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan in 1940.
She married Richard G. Lehman on March 16, 1946 in the Catholic Chapel at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC. Mr. Lehman died on June 22, 2005.
From 1942 until 1945, Mrs. Lehman worked in Utica, NY for Savage Arms and Utica Radiator. In February, 1945, she entered the US Marine Corps Womens Reserve (USMCCWR) and received her boot camp training at Camp LeJune, NC. She then served with the Assembly and Repair Security Office at Cherry Point, NC, until she was honorably discharged as a Corporal on April 5, 1946. Following World War II, Mrs. Lehman and her husband moved back to Croghan where she was a mother and homemaker for the next 20 years. In 1966, she went to work for Beaverite Products, Inc., in Beaver Falls, as an office secretary. She worked in that capacity until she left in 1975.
Mrs. Lehman was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, and was also a member of its Rosary Society. She was former member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion in Croghan, and recently become an "adopted vet" by the Post's Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of AARP, and she and her husband had been members of the Lowville VFW. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests, particularly walking, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard G. and Carole Lehman, Jr., of Las Vegas, NV, Ronald F. and Janet Lehman, of Aurora, NY, and Andrew A. and Wendy Lehman, of Croghan, NY; two daughters and sons-in-law, Constance M. Lehman-Lee and John Lee, of New Zealand, and Cynthia A. and Charles Kellogg, of Candor, NY; 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her loving husband, Richard, of 59 years, she was predeceased by her son, Matthew E. Lehman, who died in 1963; two brothers, Joseph Beaton, who died in 1968, and Finley Beaton, who died in 2010, and three sisters, Frances M. Mucci, who died in 1990, Mary Schaefer, who died in 2012, and Catherine Purcell, who died in 2005.
Mrs. Lehman’s funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be he held in the spring in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, December 5th, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lehman’s family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the 3rd Floor staff, including, doctors, nurses and attendants for all of their kindnesses and wonderful care provided to their mother and grandmother over the last 3+ years.
