CASTORLAND, NY ~ Terry F. Walker, 83, of 9215 Cut-Off Rd., Castorland, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, surrounded by his loving family where he had been under the care of the 2nd floor staff and Lewis County Hospice, after being admitted on August 7th.
Born December 24, 1928, in Croghan, NY, the son of Edward M. and Lila M. Terry Walker, he was among the last graduating class of the 1946 Beaver Falls High School.
He married Frances E. Lenegar on September 24, 1949, in the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church in Beaver Falls.
A veteran, he enlisted on December 13, 1951, and proudly served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict at Cherry Point, NC, until being honorably discharged from active duty at Cherry Point as a Staff Sergeant on December 3, 1953.
Terry worked in the Art Department of Beaverite Products, Inc., in Beaver Falls, creating graphic arts reproductions for the company, retiring in 1991 after 45 years of service. He also worked part time on cemeteries and served on the Board of Directors for Riverside Cemetery Association in Beaver Falls for many years.
He was a life member and held various offices of the Salem E.U.B. (now the Salem Christian Fellowship Church) in Beaver Falls. He was a member, former Commander and Firing Squad member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion in Croghan. He was also an honorary and former active member for 40 years of the Beaver Falls Volunteer Fire Department where he enjoyed marching in the Color Guard. Additionally, he was a member of the Lowville Marine Corps League, Beaver River Senior Citizens, Black River Camper’s Club, North Country Swingers Square Dance Club, Mullins Pond Hunting Club, Summit Sports Club, and Grange Master of the Belfort Grange.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed doing carpentry work at his Moon Lake Camp and was proud to have remodeled and lived in the oldest house in Beaver Falls that had been his grandparents’ home which was built in 1845.
Many summers were enjoyed at Moon Lake and Wellesley Island, winters snowmobiling and snowshoeing. He was an avid horse shoe player, hunter, reader, card player, Yankee and SU basketball fan, singer and fan of country western music. He was an annual snowbird to Sarasota, Florida and Aruba for many years. His special hobbies included woodcarving and oil painting on canvas, saws, skill saw blades and mail boxes.
Surviving besides his wife of nearly 63 years are a son and daughter-in-law, Steven T. and Eileen Walker, of Cincinatti, OH; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne W. and Wilbur Stanford, Jr., of Glenfield, NY; two granddaughters, Christine (Brian) Williams, and Allison Walker, both of Cincinatti, OH, and two cousins, Sally Alger Lloyd, Cazenovia, NY and William (Gloria) Terry, Naumburg, NY.
Terry’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Christian Fellowship Church in Beaver Falls, with the Rev. Bryan D. Catlin, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Riverside Annex Cemetery, Beaver Falls.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Salem Christian Fellowship Church in Beaver Falls.
