Terry Finley Obituary
HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Terry A. Finley, 60, of South Creek Rd., Harrisville, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Guthrie Robert Parker Hospital in Sayre, PA, where she had been admitted after being airlifted from Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, NY. She had been stricken earlier while working in the area.
Born September 11, 1955 in Gouverneur, NY, a daughter of John E. “Jack” and Verna A. Foley, she was educated in Harrisville Central Schools. After working as a stay-at-home Mom for a number of years, she completed her education by first acquiring her GED, and then graduating with an Associate’s Degree from Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, followed by graduating from SUNY Canton where she received an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy.
During the 1990’s, Terry worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Clifton Fine Central School in Star Lake, and after receiving her Physcial Therapy Degree, she worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant for a number of area hospitals. She eventually accepted a position as an Assistant Physical Therapist for AMN Healthcare and Club Staffing traveling to jobs and hospitals throughout New York, Vermont and Pennsylvania where she specialized in elder therapy.
Terry was always an outdoors enthusiast who for many years enjoyed snow skiing and bike riding, sometimes up to 20 to 30 miles a day. She loved to read, especially outside with the sun shining, was known for her “green thumb” ability and knack for growing beautiful potted plants, and took great pleasure in saving and displaying the artwork of her children and grandchildren. Above all, she loved all of her family and was so extremely proud of her sons and their careers. She was a working grandmother who adored and always took time for her grandchildren, and will lovingly be remembered by them as “GT”, and by the little ones, as “EE”. Her life was full of accomplishments, and to those who knew her, she will always be remembered for her compassion and willingness to always help others.
She is survived by her three sons and two daughters-in-law, Eric J. Foley, of Harrisville, Elijah P. and Brooke Finley, of Hermon, and Alexander J. and Kathleen Finley, of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Morgan Finley, Dylan Finley, Ryker Finley, Phillip LaVancha, and twins, Lincoln and Isabella Finley; two sisters, Laurie J. (Douglas) Watson, of Harrisville, and Patti L. Foley, of Cape Canaveral, FL; two brothers, Scott F. (Judy) Foley, of Green Brier, AR, and Craig S. Foley, of Harrisville, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her loving partner, Craig Young, of Port Byron, NY.
Predeceasing Terry was her father, who died in 2000, and her mother, who died three weeks ago on August 13, 2016.
Terry’s funeral service and interment will be private.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville. Following her calling hours, all are invited to a funeral reception that will be held at the former Kilbourn’s Hotel in Harrisville.
