CONSTANTIA, NY ~ Terrance D. LaVigne, 69, of Constantia, NY, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 8, 2015 at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Terry was diagnosed with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy in 2005 and with the love and affection of his family and friends, had fought the incurable disease for almost 10 years.
Born December 26, 1945 in Syracuse, NY, a son of Joseph E. and Olive J. Carroll LaVigne, he was a graduate of the Central Square High School class of 1963, and later attended MVCC in Utica for two years.
On May 11, 1968, he married Susan L. Forward in Constantia.
Terry began his career in 1964 for the Carrier Corporation in East Syracuse where for over the next 3+ decades he worked in the company’s warehouse department, Transport Refrigeration Divisions, and as an Expeditor, supervising the timely completion of large orders for the industrial air conditioning manufacturer. He retired in 2002 after 38 years of faithful service.
An exceptionally civic-minded man, he was extremely proud of his community as was evidenced by his 51 year membership with the Constantia Volunteer Fire Department where he had served in various positions including as Chief of the Department for 7 years, as Fire Commissioner for the Constantia fire District 1, and as a former medic with the North Shore Ambulance Corps. Additionally, he served as a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 724 in Constantia for many years, and enjoyed coaching baseball for the North Shore Little League as well as playing and coaching softball in local leagues. As an avid NY Yankees fan and always a baseball enthusiast, he especially loved in his later years watching his 12 year old grandson, Connor, play baseball.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife, Susan, of 47 years, are his son and daughter-in-law, Shane C. and Bethany LaVigne, of Brewerton, NY; his grandson, Connor J. LaVigne; a brother, Joseph and wife, Kathleen LaVigne, Constantia; two sisters, Sharon and husband, William King, Constantia, and Nanette and husband, Thomas Cosbey, Apex, NC; father-in-law and step mother, Gerald and Patricia Forward, Constantia, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by both his parents.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Remembrance of His Life on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 12 Noon at the Constantia Volunteer Fire Department, 23 County Rt. 23, Constantia, NY 13044.
