Stewart Hooley Obituary

LOWVILLE, NY ~ Stewart B. Hooley, 61, of State Rt. 26, Lowville, formerly of Harrisville, died Monday, May 27, 2019 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY, where he had been admitted after being stricken at home.

Born May 8, 1958 in Gouverneur, NY, a son of Robert and Thelma (DeLawyer) Hooley, he was a 1976 graduate of Harrisville Central School.

He married Carolyn J. Cole on March 17, 1984 in St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville.

Stewart became a motor vehicle Master Mechanic and was employed at Dodds Motors in Gouverneur and later for Lofink Ford in Carthage for a number of years.  He eventually moved out West where he worked at a large Ford dealership in LasVegas, NV, before retiring in 1996 due to health problems.

Prior to moving to Lowville, Stewart had been a parishioner at St. Francis Solanus Church in Harrisville.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed tinkering with, and repairing anything that had a motor. He also liked to do home remodeling, raising chickens, cooking, and riding motorcycles, especially his Harley. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and their three dogs, Pablo, Jessie and Sweet Pea.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn, of 35 years; his children, Brandy J. and her husband, Adam McCroy, of Olympia, WA, Casey M. Hooley and her companion, James Blackmer, of Carthage, and Mac R. Hooley, of Lowville; two (soon to be three) grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Wesley Parow, of Harrisville, and Allen Bango, of Carthage, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Hooley, and his two sisters, Kay Parow and Marlene Bango.

Stewart’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Family Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Harrisville, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Francis Solanus Church in Harrisville, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A funeral luncheon will follow in the social hall of St. Francis Solanus.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 3rd, from 2–4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
