BEAVER FALLS, NY ~ Roberta “Bobbie” W. Barrett, 79, of 6523 Hilltop Rd., Beaver Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in the Lewis County General Hospital’s Hospice Facility, Lowville, where she had been admitted on May 10th.
Born October 27, 1936, in Rome, NY, a daughter of Robert M. and Gertrude Scothon Williams, she was a 1954 graduate of Rome Free Academy. She later was graduated from Cortland State with a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education.
She married Frank Barrett on March 28, 1959 at the United Methodist Church in Lee Center, NY.
Roberta began her early teaching career as a 4th grade teacher for Sodus Central School in Sodus, NY. After her marriage, she became a corrective reading teacher for Beaver River Central School, and following retirement from her teaching career, she was employed by AAA in Watertown as an auto travel counselor.
A long time and involved member of the Beaver Falls United Methodist Church, she enjoyed acting as the church’s choir director, as well as the organizer for its Christmas Pageant. She also took pride in her community and was very active as a board member of the Beaver Falls Library, as a former Girl Scout Leader, and will long be remembered for her role as past Costume Director for musicals at Beaver River Central School.
In addition to her loving husband of 57 years, Frank, she is survived by four children and their spouses and partner, Aaron (Leann) Barrett, of Mt. Home, ID, Svea Barrett (Richard Weems), of Fairlawn, NJ, Bronwen (Steven) Keefer, of Croghan, and Alexander (Carrie) Barrett, of Lowville; ten grandchildren, Rainier, Tristan, Morgan, Conor, Dylan, Boone (and Jenn), Griffin, Sage, Harper and Sutton; and a sister, Charlene W. Roullier, of Lee Center, NY.
She was predeceased by her sister, Joan H. Bockes, of Scottsville, NY.
A private Graveside Committal Service will take place at the convenience of the family in Ava Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
