CASTORLAND, NY ~ Richard F. Turck, 91, formerly of Castorland, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, where he had resided since earlier in the month.

Born December 3, 1923 in Croghan, NY, a son of Chester C. and Pearl Lomber Turck, he attended Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan.

He married Emma Sweeney on August 23, 1946 at the home of her parents in Beaver Falls.  Mrs. Turck died April 10, 2008.

A WWII veteran, Richard entered the US Army at Ft. Bragg, NC in 1943 and was attached to the 7th Armored Division.  He served at Camp Hood, TX, Camp Pendleton, VA, Camp Bowie, TX, and was honorably discharged from Ft. Dix, NJ in 1946 as a Corporal Tech 5th.  During his time spent in WWII service, he was also a very good amateur boxer.

Mr. Turck worked at the former United Block Company for a short time after the war.  In 1947, he went to work for the J.P. Lewis Company in Beaver Falls where he worked as a machine tender for over 39 years, retiring in 1986.  He was also a self-employed logger drawing logs to various local paper mills, and for many years would haul Christmas trees to New York City for resale.  He also owned and operated Turck Rubbish Removal for over 10 years, servicing the Beaver Falls, Croghan and New Bremen areas.  

Mr. Turck was a life member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion in Croghan, and a former member of the Beaver Falls Volunteer Fire Department.  He was an avid outdoorsman, and particularly enjoyed hunting, snow sledding and woodcutting.  

He is survived by his son Roger F. Turck, of Beaver Falls, two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia C. and Larry Jones, of Lowville, and Kathy L. and Alan Juby, of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren, Tyler (Michelle) Jones, Troy (Susan) Jones, Chad (Susan) Juby, Bernadette Turck, Jason Turck, and Preston Turck, and five great grandchildren, Dalton Jones, Garrett Jones, Audrey Jones, Dawson Jones, and Sean Juby; two sisters, Mary Ann Ritz and Rosie Bruce, both of Croghan, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Emma, of 62 years, he was predeceased by seven brothers, Bernard, Edward, Robert, Donald, James, Arthur and Ralph Turck, and a sister, Teresa Turck.

A funeral service for Richard will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Beaver Falls with the Rev. David B. Herrman, Pastor, and the Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired United Methodist Minister, co-officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in Riverside Annex Cemetery, Beaver Falls.  The family will receive friends during a calling hour from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
