HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Raymond A. Trombley, 89, formerly of Maple St., Harrisville, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, where he had resided since January.
    
Raymond was born in Carthage, NY, on January 24, 1927, the son of Alexander and Cordelia Ducey Trombley, he was educated in Carthage schools including Augustinian Academy and Carthage Central School.

He married Madeline D. Conklin on November 16, 1946, at St. James Church in Carthage, and together, they enjoyed over 64 years of marriage. Mrs. Trombley died on April 28, 2011.

At the young age of 14, Raymond began working at the former Crown-Zellerbach Paper Company in Carthage.  A month after his 17th birthday, he enlisted on February 25, 1944 into the US Navy and served throughout the Asiatic Pacific and Philippines during WWII before being honorably discharged as Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class on June 5, 1946.  

Following his Naval service, he returned to Crown-Zellerbach in Carthage where for the next 37 years of his life he worked as a Yardman, in the Sample Department, as a Paper Chemist, in Quality Control, as the Liason between the Carthage and New York City offices, as a Shift Chemist and as an Assistant Lab Technician before retiring in 1983.  After his Crown Zellerbach retirement, he did private work as a carpenter and builder in the Carthage and Harrisville areas, and additionally, taught at Gouverneur as a substitute carpenter trade teacher.

He was a communicant of St. Francis Solanus Church in Harrisville since moving there in 1985 from Carthage where he had been a parishioner of St. James Church.  He was a former member of Papermakers Union Local 118 and 93, and was a former member of the Board of Trustees for the Village of Harrisville.

As an accomplished woodworker, Raymond enjoyed anything to do with carpentry, and liked to read, do crossword puzzles and loved spending time with his family.  

Surviving are six children, including three daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn M. and Leroy Davis, Karen S. and Ronald Baillargeon, all of Harrisville, and Christine A. and Albie Noyes, of Carthage, and three sons, Brian A. Trombley, of Carthage, Bruce A. Trombley, of Adams Center, and Bart A. Trombley and companion, Betty Goggin, of Saltillo, MS; nineteen grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great, great granddaughters.  

He was predeceased by his granddaughter Nichole M. O’Day, who died on May 28, 2005, a great granddaughter, Jacquelyn Buskey, who died on February 24, 1998, three sisters, Ida Prorie, Doris Crane and Agnes Trombley who died at the age 5.

Raymond’s funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, Harrisville, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Spring interment with military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Harrisville.  There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rainbow Unit at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, NY 13367.
