SEVERNA PARK, MD/CRANBERRY LAKE, NY ~ A Memorial Service for Nancy A. (Reynolds) Valentine, 79, of Severna Park, MD, formerly of Newton Falls, NY and Cranberry Lake, NY, who died on December 30, 2015 in Severna Park, will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Star Lake, NY.  Concluding her Memorial Service, everyone is cordially invited to attend a gathering and further remembrance of Nancy’s life at the Valentine family home at 7076 NYS Rt. 3, in Cranberry Lake.  Her Graveside Committal Service will be held the following day, Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 12 Noon in St. Francis Solanus Cemetery, Harrisville.

Born June 13, 1936 in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Aloysius and Phyllis Arsenault Reynolds, she was a 1954 graduate of St. Peter’s High School in Worcester.  Following high school, Nancy was graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, where she received her RN Degree, and went on to work at hospitals in Boston and San Francisco.

While in San Francisco, she met Murray F. Valentine, who became her husband and the love of her life.  They were married on November 21, 1959 in Shrewsbury, MA, and moved to Newton Falls where her husband was Vice President of Resources for Newton Falls Paper Company.  During the years she worked as a mother and homemaker, she also attended SUNY Potsdam from where she was graduated earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 1975, and a Master’s Degree in 1979, both in Elementary Education.  She eventually went to work as an elementary school teacher for the Clifton-Fine school system.  In 1981, she moved with her family to Maryland where she worked as a nurse in Baltimore, and as an elementary school teacher in Severna Park and Annapolis.

She was instrumental in starting a community library in Cranberry Lake as well as presenting a proposal to the town board for the current village beach, and also served as a board member on the Cranberry Lake Boat Club and was active in Retired Teachers’ Associations.

Nancy never stopped learning, and loved to travel and spend summers at Cranberry Lake where she swam, climbed mountains, hiked, kayaked and spent time on her pontoon boat.  Throughout her life she enjoyed many old and new friendships and took them very seriously as there was no limit to what she would do for others.

Surviving are three sons, Jon M. Valentine, of Severna Park, MD, Joseph F. Valentine, of New York, NY, and Frank R. and his wife, Aimee Valentine, of Flintstone, MD; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brooks Valentine, and Jordan and Kaylie Boyd; four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband, Murray, of 49 years, who died December 13, 2008, she is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Mary Valentine, who died in 1961, and her brother, Gerald F. Reynolds.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clifton-Fine Hospital, 1014 Oswegatchie Trail, Star Lake, NY 13690, or, Clifton Community Library, 7171 State Hwy 3, Cranberry Lake, NY 12927.
