Michael Arnold Obituary

HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Michael J. Arnold, 66, of Maple St., Harrisville, died on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, following complications from heart surgery.

Born May 25, 1951 in W. Carthage, NY, the eldest of five children and the son of Francis and Barbara (McMahon) Arnold, he graduated from Harrisville Central School in 1970.

Following high school, Mike attended Canton ATC, and later enlisted in the US Marine Corps on October 12, 1971 and served with CommCo, 3rd Marine Division until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal on July 16, 1973.

Shortly after his military service, he went to work at Fort Drum, holding a variety of positions in different departments over the years, including that of heavy equipment operator in the base’s Department of Public Works, the position he still held at the time of his death.

He married Tammy R. Gibbs on October 8, 1994 in St. Francis Solanus Church in Harrisville.

He was a life-long communicant of St. Francis Solanus Church in Harrisville, and was a member of the Black River American Legion.

Mike was an avid outdoors man, who loved camping and just being outside working around his home. A life-long NY Yankees fan, he also loved the New York Giants, and enjoyed attending Red & Black Football games. None of his favorite pastimes compared to the enjoyment he experienced watching his daughter play soccer during her high school years or going out to a movie and then to dinner with his wife and daughter. He wore the ever-present pride and love he had for his daughter, Elizabeth, on his sleeve, as was evident every time he found himself in a conversation with anyone about her.

Surviving besides his wife, Tammy, are his daughter, Elizabeth R. Arnold of Harrisville; three brothers, Patrick (Patricia) Arnold, of Camillus, NY, Paul Arnold, of Maryland, and Thomas (Kelly) Arnold, of Atlanta, GA; his sister, Judy (Bruce) St. Lawrence, of Middlesex, NY; his mother-in-law and step-father-in-law, Loretta and Paul McDermid, of Deer River; his father-in-law, Dayton Gibbs, of Carthage and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by both his parents.

Mike’s funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018, beginning with an 11:15 a.m. family Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville, followed by a 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. A private burial will be in St. Francis Solanus Cemetery, Harrisville at a later date.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 9th, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Harrisville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville.
