Mary Tabolt Obituary

CROGHAN, NY ~ Mary Emma Tabolt, 90, of 6920 Bank St., Croghan, died peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at her home, where she was under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born on August 12, 1922, in Boonville, NY, a daughter of Leo A. and Anna Mary Shue O’Brien, she was a 1940 graduate of Boonville High School.

She married Russell Tabolt on February 19, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Boonville, with the Rev. Thomas Driscoll, officiating.  Mr. Tabolt served on the original Lewis County Board of Legislators until the time of his death on August 17, 1995.

After high school, Mrs. Tabolt worked for Blankman’s Dollar Store in Boonville.  During World War II, she worked at the former Rome Air Depot where she was attached to the AGP (Airplanes Grounded for Parts) Unit.  While there, she took care of ordering parts for planes that had flown in for repairs.  Following her marriage, she moved with her husband to Croghan where they eventually took over the operation of the Augustus Tabolt (Mr. Tabolt’s father) farm and where she became a full time mother and homemaker.

Mrs. Tabolt was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan and was a former member of its Rosary Society. She was also a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Boonville and a member of its Daughters of Isabella.

Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and traveling.  Among her most memorable traveling experiences was a 1998 trip to Ireland with all of her daughters.  She also enjoyed cross word puzzles, reading, and was an avid baseball fan, especially of the New York Yankees.

Surviving are five sons, William F. Tabolt, of Watertown, James P. Tabolt, Lewis County Legislator Michael A., and wife Christine Tabolt, Brien L, and wife Rose Tabolt, Bruce E., and wife Robin Tabolt, all of Croghan; three daughters, Joan E. Terrillion, Christine T., and husband Earl Lashbrooks, all of Croghan, and Angela T., and husband James Griffin, of Rochester, MN; 29 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; a sister, Jean Lillie, of Black River, and nieces and nephews.
