Mary Meyer Obituary

CARTHAGE, NY ~ “Moon” Mary F. Meyer, 80, of Meadowbrook Terrace, Carthage, formerly of Castorland, grew her wings at dawn on May 12, 2014 at the Hospice of Jefferson County – The Ellis Farm in Watertown, NY.
  
She was born on August 15, 1933 in Carthage, NY, to Edwin and Rose Renaud Burnside.

Moon grew up in Carthage and married George C. Meyer on January 13, 1951, and was happily married for 24 years before his death on January 16, 1975, at the age of 45.

A loving mother and homemaker, she raised eight children who she is survived by, including five daughters and sons-in-law, Dorrie and Bruce Boliver, Croghan, Ev and Ned Burdick, Sandy Creek, Elizabeth and Randy Porter, Black River, Sandy Meyer-Clark and Nelson Clark, Williamson, NY and Rose Meyer-Love and Michael Love, Rochester, NY, and three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Lisa Meyer, Carthage, Kevin and Vicki Meyer, Castorland, and Dick and Jodi Meyer, Carthage.  She took great pride in her 22 grandchildren, Tricia Burdick Streeter, New Bremen, Todd Hyman, Smithville, Heather Burdick, Sandy Creek, Will Meyer, Lockport, Colleen Hyman Heath, Sackets Harbor, Bob Boliver, Beaver Falls, Nate Burdick, Rochester, Georgi Boliver Bojczuk, Eden, Joshua Meyer, Beaver Falls, George (Chuck) Meyer, Castorland, Christa Porter, Rochester, Kylie Meyer Simpson, Castorland, Jenniefer Porter Tastor, Watertown, Kimberly Meyer Porter, Croghan, Michael Porter, Black River, Tim Hyman, Evans Mills, Matthew Meyer, Castorland, Rick Meyer, Castorland, Jake Meyer, Castorland, Schae Clark Williamson, Tori Love, Rochester, and Gabriella Love, Rochester; 37 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Harper, of Carthage, NY, along with her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Wanda Harsche, her brothers, William Burnside and Robert Burnside, her daughter-in-law, Sue Young Meyer, and her great grandson, Chase A. Meyer.

Moon worked at the Beaverite Products, Inc. in Croghan for 37 years in various capacities.  She was very involved in her community having served on the Beaver River Central School Board of Education, as a member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion Auxiliary, and as a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan.
  
Prior to her becoming a resident of Meadowbrook Terrace Assisted Living Center in Carthage, she had resided for nine years with her daughter, Rose, in Rochester.

She enjoyed dancing, singing with her family, cooking, playing cards (especially Euchre), traveling, bingo, and attending the sporting events of her grandchildren.  Moon was devoted to her family and to the many other self-adopted sons and daughters she gathered around her.  She will be remembered always for her joy of life and her caring heart which reached out to all those around her, wherever she lived.

Moon’s funeral will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, beginning with an 11:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral Mass at St. Stephen's Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor, officiating, and eulogy by Wayne Arnold.  Burial will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Croghan.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 15th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
