Mary Cassidy Obituary

HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Mary C. Cassidy, 73, of 261A Osborne Rd., Harrisville, died peacefully following a long battle with health matters, on May 4, 2018 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC.

Born on June 30, 1944 in Ogdensburg, NY, a daughter of John J. and Dorothy Helen (Arquette) Netto, she was a 1962 graduate of Watertown High School.  In 1963, she graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown with an LPN Degree.

She married Thomas H. Cassidy on September 21, 1984 in St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.

After obtaining her LPN Degree, Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Madonna Home in Watertown, and later accepted a nurse’s position at Mercy Hospital in Watertown where she worked for a number of years.  Her last position in her nursing career was working as a hospice nurse for Jefferson County Hospice travelling throughout the county taking care of terminally ill patients.  She retired in 1999 after 36 years of faithful service.

Mary was a communicant of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Harrisville, and was a member of the Lake Bonaparte Chapter of the Red Hat Society, as well as the Tuesday Night Girl’s Group in Harrisville.

Mary will be remembered for being a wonderful visitor, especially on the phone, who always stayed in touch with family and friends. She loved wintering with her husband in their condo in North Myrtle Beach, SC, and spending time with her brother and sister-in-law who wintered nearby.

In addition to her loving husband, “Tom” of almost 34 years, she is survived by her son, Robert Lynch of Moravia, NY; two grandsons, Bobby and Kevin; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ronald (Addie) Netto, and Anthony (Denise) Netto, all of Watertown, and Robert Netto, of Syracuse; her sister, Elizabeth Thompson, of Watertown, and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gary Thompson, and her former sister-in-law, Judy Netto.

Mary’s funeral will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. family Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville, followed by a 10:30 Mass of Christian Burial from St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Harrisville Community Cemetery, Harrisville.  All are invited to attend a funeral luncheon which will be held in the church’s Social Hall after Mary’s burial.

Calling hours will be on Friday, May 18th, at the funeral home from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
