CROGHAN, NY ~ Mrs. Martha J. Campany, 84, died peacefully in the company of her family at the Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, on Monday, April 17, 2023.
Martha was born July 8, 1938 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Vera (Osborne) Hall. She attended country schools and graduated from Beaver River High School in 1955. Martha played in the school band and sang in chorus.
Martha was married to her beloved husband, Richard R. Campany in 1956 at St. Peter’s Church in Lowville with Monsignor John Cotter celebrating the marriage.
Martha and her husband, Richard, owned and operated their family dairy farm for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother, raising their six children.
Martha was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, where she served as Eucharistic Minister, where she was an ordained a Lay Minister for the Diocese of Ogdensburg, and from where she led scripture studies.
Martha had many interests including a passion for reading, being a member of the Croghan Library Book Club, for growing rose bushes, for dancing and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.
Martha is survived by her loving husband, Richard, of 66 years; her children, Richard F. Campany, Michelle (Mark) Buckingham, Gary J. (Carla) Campany, Melanie (Rick) Boliver, Marcie (Richard) Buell and Calvin H. Campany (Shawn Thornton); 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Carolyn Schneider, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents Lawrence and Vera, Martha was predeceased by an infant brother Stanley, sisters Naomi Snow, Bethany Falton and Melissa Widrick.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, followed by burial in St. Stephen’s Parish Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at St. Stephen’s from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass.
