Born July 5, 1924 in Chasm Falls, NY, the eldest child of Edgar and Lea Goyea King, she attended rural schools in Whippleville and Jay Corners, and was graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 1941.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from Potsdam State in 1945 and was among the first class in the college’s history to be awarded that degree in elementary education.

She married Francis J. “Brud” Schneeberger on August 23, 1947 in St. Augustine’s Church in North Bangor, NY, with the Rev. Bernard Kellogg, officiating.  After their marriage, the couple lived in Beaver Falls.  Mr. Schneeberger died on April 3, 1976.

Mrs. Schneeberger began her teaching career at Beaver River Central School in January, 1945, before the centralization of the school system, where she taught in the elementary grades.  She retired in 1979 after 30 years of service.

Following her retirement, from 1980 until 1990, she continued working with young people as a volunteer at WIC and North Country Children’s Clinic in Lowville and was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 1987.

Also after her retirement, she was commissioned in February, 1991 by the Most Reverend Stanislaus Joseph Brzana, Bishop of the Diocese of Ogdensburg as a Pastoral Minister of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, where she had volunteered full time for the two previous years as assistant in establishing the church’s St. Francis Religious Formation Center, and where she continued to serve as Catechist and as a member of the Religious Formation Committee.  Additionally, she also served on St. Stephen’s Church Parish Council, was a member of its RCIA Team, Adult Formation Team, and Disciples in Mission Team, as well as continuing as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.  She was recognized by the Diocese for her selfless efforts to share by being awarded the Sharing the Light of Faith award in 1994 at the Festival of Faith.

In 1990 she organized a group of volunteers and started the Food $en$e Program for people of the Croghan area, which she coordinated for many years until May, 2002.

In 2001, she was the recipient of the Croghan Lions Club Citizen of the Year award in recognition of all of her volunteer efforts and service to her community.  She also was an active member of the Beaver River Senior Citizens Organization.

She was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, and was a member of its Rosary Society.  She also was a professed member of the St. Stephen’s Secular Franciscan Order for over 20 years, and truly lived her life following the example of St. Francis.

As an avid bowler, she was a member of the Thousand Island area 600 club.  Her other favorite pastimes and interests included playing cards, gardening and especially anything to do with working with people.
