CROGHAN, NY ~ Lorna L. Lehman, 86, of 9943 Main St., Croghan, died on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family where she was under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born May 17, 1927, in Belfort, NY, a daughter of Edward and Gladys Garnsey Taylor, she was educated in district schools and was a 1945 graduate of Beaver Falls High School.

She married Eldred F. “Nick” Lehman on November 1, 1947, in the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Beaver Falls, NY, with the Rev. Frank Hube, officiating.

In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, Mrs. Lehman worked in her younger years in New York City and at a bakery in Buffalo. She later worked as a waitress at Yousey’s and Bergen’s Camps in Long Pond, at the tree farm nursery in Dadville, and at the Croghan and Beaver Falls Beaverite from where she retired in the mid 1980’s after 20+ years of service.

She was a member of the Castorland Baptist Church and had been an active member and volunteer of the women’s group, Gleaners, and the Black River Campers Club.

Lorna loved to travel and throughout her life had traveled with her husband to every state in the continental United States. For many years she liked to bowl, enjoyed snowmobiling, was an avid Euchre card player, and, above all, loved spending time with her large family.

Surviving besides her husband, ”Nick” of almost 66 years, are her five children, Sheryl A., and husband Carl Palmer, Aptos, CA, Bruce E. Lehman, Lowville, Mark A. and Bonnie Lehman, Jill E. Boliver and her companion, Ron Anders, and Debra J., and husband Jeff Peters, all of Croghan; eleven grandchildren, Kayla Palmer, Holly Lehman, Jonas Lehman, Brooke Lehman, Michael (Cheri) Boliver, Brian (Raylene) Boliver, David (Valley) Boliver, Renee (Jeff) Walseman, Jessica (Brandon) Gentry, Andrew Peters and Timothy Peters;  16 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Frances and Birdie Taylor, Beverly Kloster, and Glenda (Melvin) Kipfer; a brother-in-law, Darwin (Eleanor) Lehman, and several nieces and nephews.  

She was predeceased by two grandsons, Scott F. and Aaron J. Lehman; a granddaughter, Adryian Marie Boliver; two sisters and three brothers, Helen Blighton, Ruth Button, Virgil Taylor Alvin Taylor and William Taylor, and two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Virgil and Florence Lehman, and Henry Kloster.

Lorna’s Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12th, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at the Castorland Baptist Church, Castorland, with John Martin, officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Annex Cemetery, Beaver Falls.

Calling hours will be on Friday (TODAY) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
