CROGHAN, NY ~ Lawrence J. “Larry” Houppert, Jr., 48, of 6920 Convent St., Croghan, NY, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at his home where he was under the care of his loving family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born March 28, 1964, in Lowville, NY, a son of Lawrence J. and Beverly J. Zehr Houppert, Sr., he graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1982, from Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, in 1984, and from Utica College of Syracuse University from where he received his BA/BS degree in 1986.

Following college, he worked in retail management, as an Assistant Manager, and as a Marketing Coordinator for the Ames Department Store chain in Pulaski, Rhode Island, and Vermont. He also worked for Strawberries Music in Connecticut. More recently, he worked as a day stock trader from his home.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed composing, as well as collecting music, was a classic cars enthusiast, and liked sports, especially anything to do with Syracuse University.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Beaver River Post 1663, in Croghan, and the Northern Cruisers Car Club.

Surviving are his brother, William J. and wife, Judi Houppert; his sister, Wendy A. and husband, Duane Lehman, all of Lowville; his nephews, Nathan and wife, Sarah Lehman, of Watertown, Trevor and his fiancée, Erika Andrews, of Baldwinsville, and Levi Houppert, of Lowville; niece, Joan M. and husband, Ian Peters, of Newark, NY, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Larry’s funeral will be on Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, with Myron Roggie, Associate Pastor of the Naumburg Conservative Mennonite Church, Castorland, officiating. His burial will be in West Lowville Rural Cemetery, Lowville.

Calling hours will be also be on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of his 3:00 p.m. service at the funeral home.
