CROGHAN, NY ~ Kenneth N. Turck, 70, of 8212 Adams Hill Rd., Croghan, died peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at his home where he had been under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born March 29, 1945, in Lowville, NY, a son of Henry G. and Mildred G. Wood Turck, he was educated in New Bremen country school and at Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan.

He married Linda E. Stanford on June 12, 1971 in St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan.

A Viet Nam War veteran, Ken entered the US Navy on May 28, 1964, and served aboard the USS Coral Sea out of San Diego, CA. A recipient of the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Viet Nam), he was honorably discharged from active duty as an SN (E-3) on May 27, 1966, and from reserve duty on December 25, 1968, from the US Naval Reserve Manpower Center, Bainbridge, MD.

Following his naval service, he worked as a farmer and at AMF Bowling Products in Lowville. In 1966, he went to work for New York Air Brake Company in Watertown. Throughout his career there, he worked as a machinist, assembler and repairman until he retired after 40 years of service in 2007.

Throughout his life, his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and trap shooting.  He took the most pleasure in visiting and spending time with his family, especially his “boys” and grandchildren.

He attended St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, and was a member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion in Croghan, and the Lowville Fish & Game Club.

Surviving besides his former spouse, Linda E. Turck, of Croghan, are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kip M. and Julie Turck, and Philip K. Turck, all of Croghan; three granddaughters, Kaleigh, Bridget and Megan, and a grandson, Nicholas; five brothers, Louie Turck, Rome, NY, James Turck and companion Rita Fuller, Carthage, Leland Turck, Croghan, Douglas and wife, Dorothea Turck, Albany, and Barry and wife, Janet Turck, Lowville; four sisters, Betty and husband, Rodney Bush, Watertown, Sue and husband, David VanAlstine, Georgia, Barbara Brown, Lowville, and Teresa and husband, Kevin Kramer, Black River, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son who died at birth on November 15, 1974.

Ken’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow and will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Bremen.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, June 2nd from 4 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
