LOWVILLE, NY ~ Kenneth J. Bush, died Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville where he had been a patient since August 23rd.
Born July 8, 1944 in Lowville, NY, a son of Leonard and Doris Schack Bush, he was a 1962 graduate of Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan.
He married Mavis A. Hart in September, 1970 at St. Francis Solanus Church in Harrisville. The marriage later ended in divorce.
A US Air Force veteran, Mr. Bush entered the service in May, 1965 and served with the 765th Radar Squadron of the Air Defense Command. He served primarily at Charleston Air Force Base in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. He was honorably discharged from active duty in November, 1968.
Following his discharge he worked as a computer operator for the General Electric Corporation in Utica. In 1970, he began work for the former General Telephone Company in Boonville, which later became Black River Phone Company and Citizen’s Phone Company, respectively. In 1980, he accepted a position with the United States Department of Defense as a Telephone & Switching Equipment Maintenance Technician at Fort Drum. In 2000, he was promoted to their Information and Technologies Division, where he was responsible for records, billings and continued switching equipment maintenance, and from where he retired in July, 2004.
Ken was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan. He was a member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion in Croghan, an honorary member of the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department and was a life member of the Northern New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and card playing.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin J. and Susan Bush, of Waxahachie, TX, and his daughter and son-in-law, Shellie L. and Scott Taylor, of Hannibal, NY; two grandchildren, Owen Bush and Sean Taylor; a brother, James (Arline) Bush, of Croghan; his sister, Cindy (Gene) Czajkowski, of Munnsville; two sisters-in-law, Beverley Bush and Cynthia Bush, both of Croghan, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Ronald Bush, and four sisters, Rita Bush, Sally Bush, Phyllis Hicks and Carolyn Buell.
Ken’s funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.
A calling hour for relatives and friends will also be on Saturday beginning at 8:45 a.m. until his 9:45 a.m. prayer service.
