COPENHAGEN, NY ~ Jeanne I. Seamans, 80, a resident of Copenhagen Happy Achers, 2449 Stoddard Rd., died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in the Emergency Room of Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where she had been taken after being stricken at home.
Born December 23, 1934 in Adams, NY, a twin daughter of Kent A. and Ethel C. Tryon Spencer, she was educated in Belleville and Sandy Creek schools and received her G.E.D. in 1993.
A marriage to Vernon A. Muir 1953 in Altmar, NY ended in divorce. She married Guy A. Seamans in 1964 in Mannsville, NY and eventually moved to Copenhagen.
Jeanne was a mother and homemaker for much of her life, and also worked alongside her husband, Guy, in their Seaman’s Meat Cutting business in Copenhagen for many years.
Throughout her life Jeanne liked to travel and she particularly enjoyed knitting, especially knitting baby sets to help raise money for various causes at the Lowville American Legion, and knitting dish clothes to give them away for birthdays and to friends at her church. One of her fondest activities during her later years was participating in “Friday Morning Get Together” with the girls at Gail Parker’s in Copenhagen.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Ruth Muir, of Crystal Springs, MS, Herbert C. Seamans, of Copenhagen, NY; four daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria J. and Bruce Piatt, of Adams, Bonnie S. and Rick Schryver, Jr., of Ellisburg, Beth A. and Bernard “Gus” Kloster, of Croghan, and Pamela L. and Robert Hatcher, of Copenhagen; two step daughters, Patricia, and husband James Forbes, of Morehead City, NC, and Roberta and husband Gary Aubin, of Copenhagen; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one niece and one nephew.
She was predeceased by her husband Guy, who died on December 13, 2001, a son, Kenneth Muir, who died in 1985, a brother, James Spencer, who died shortly after birth, two sisters, her twin, Jane Elizabeth Spencer, who also died shortly after birth in 1934, and Kathy Schryver, who died in 1990.
A Memorial Service for Jeanne will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the River of Life Fellowship Church in Copenhagen, with George Gray, Pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
