CROGHAN, NY ~ Jane E. Widrick, 74, of 6936 Convent St., died Friday, March 2, 2012, at her home where she was under the care of her family and and Lewis County Hospice.
Born November 20, 1937, in Croghan, the daughter of Daniel and Barbara Steria Roes, she was educated at Beaver River Central School from where she received her GED.
She married Richard J. Widrick on April 10, 1954, in the Croghan Mennonite Church with the Rev. Lloyd Boshart, officiating. Mr. Widrick died on April 4, 2002.
Mrs. Widrick began work in 1968 in the cafeteria of Beaver River Central School. She retired from there in June, 2000, after 32 years of service, the last several as its Head Baker.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and especially time spent with her family and friends.
She was a member of the Croghan Mennonite Church.
Surviving are four sons and their wives, James R. and Judy Widrick, Lowville, Bruce C. and Kathleen Widrick, Tom J. and Sharon Widrick, and Terry S. and Michelle Widrick, all of Croghan; a daughter and her husband, Darlene J. and Jeffrey Sauter, Lowville; thirteen grandchildren, Maggi, Jacob, Danny, Stephanie, Ryan, Darin, Scott, Sarah, Shari, Kelsey, Amber, Morgan, and Tasha; five great-grandchildren, Desiree, Emilee, Mae, Ella and Aubree; two step grandchildren, Katelyn and Kyle; two step great-grandchildren, Missy and Cody, and nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband of 48 years, she was predeceased by her father and mother, and a brother Carlton Roes, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Widrick’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Croghan Mennonite Church with Chad Atwood, John Martin and Walt Morton, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery later in the Spring.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Scanlon Funeral Home, 9791 Main St., Croghan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department’s Ambulance Fund or Lewis County Friends of Hospice.
