ANTWERP/HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Henry Martin “Marty” Norris, 78, of 500 Lexington Ave., Antwerp, formerly of Harrisville, died Tuesday evening, February 9, 2016 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a medical patient for the past week.
Marty was born January 21, 1938 in Harrisville, NY, a son of John Henry and Cecelia Jenack Norris, and was a 1956 graduate of Harrisville High School.
Following high school, he proudly served with the US Air Force stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico from where he was honorably discharged on April 7, 1961. While in New Mexico, he was married and had a son. That marriage ended in divorce.
He married Judy LaVancha on March 16, 1969 in Harrisville, NY. Mrs. LaVancha died on October 23, 2002.
Marty was a very talented artist and graphic designer and started his career with Carthage Sign Company in Carthage. He later became the owner and operator of Marty’s Signs in Gouverneur for many years.
He was a life member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge #2035. He was also a very avid reader and conversationalist.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, April and Butch Lewis, of Philadelphia, NY; a son, Troy Norris, of Alberquerque, NM; a grandson, Jerad Norris, and a great grandson, Porter; a sister, Georgia Camidge, of Manassas, VA; a brother, Matthew Norris in FL; a brother-in-law, Roger Evans in FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife Judy, he was predeceased by his parents, a granddaughter, Abigail Lewis, a sister, Jean Evans, and a brother-in-law, Steve Camidge, of VA.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on March 6, 2016 at the Gouverneur Elks Lodge, 1419 US Hwy 11, Gouverneur. A luncheon will follow the service. A Graveside Committal Service will be held in the spring at Kimball’s Mills Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In his memory, contributions may be made to the family.
