NEW BREMEN, NY ~ Helen W. Glenn, 97, of NYS Rt. 812, New Bremen, died peacefully while  surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at her home, where she had been under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born on May 1, 1916, in New Bremen, NY, a daughter of Charles N. and Lena Mattis Wagner, she was a 1933 graduate of Lowville Academy.

She married Donald L. Glenn on November 16, 1948, in St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Francis Kearney, OFM, officiating.  Mr. Glenn died on November 5, 1989.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Glenn was an extremely active community and church volunteer, especially doing fundraising for the former St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Bremen.  She was an unusually cheery person who had many good friends that often stopped by her house to catch up on community news and share in her good humor and optimism.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, scrapbooking on Lewis County people and news, watching Lawrence Welk, and doing the daily crossword puzzle.  She also loved all animals—especially dogs.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, John W. and Rhonda Glenn, of Castorland, and Donald L. (Amos) Glenn, of New Bremen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Claire A. Henderson, of Lowville, and Mary G. and Kelly Croft, of Ellicott City, Maryland;  five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, officiating.  Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Bremen.
