CASTORLAND, NY ~ Gladys I. Pate, 93, of 10087 NYS Rt. 812, Castorland, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.
Born December 19, 1930 in Turin, NY, a daughter of DeAlton and Eva Bell Cranker, she was a graduate of Constableville High School in Constableville.
She married Bernard A. Pate on October 14, 1953 in St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan. Mr. Pate died on May 4, 1999.
Gladys was a loving mother and homemaker all of her life, always taking wonderful care of her seven children and many grandchildren. She took great pride in her flower gardening and loved to travel anytime the opportunity arose. She also enjoyed being a former member of the Croghan American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are six children including her four sons, Duane D. Pate, Dwight A. Pate and David A. Pate, all of Castorland, and Bernard J “Beaver” (Kimberly) Pate, of Turin, NY, and two daughters, Connie S. (Rodney) Stevens, of Castorland, and Cindy S. Middleton, of Watson; thirteen grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Bernard, she was predeceased by her son Bernard A. Pate who died in infancy in 1956, her daughter Bonnie Branagan who died in 2021, three sisters, Pauline Seelman, Dorothy Moxley and Doris Marolf, and three brothers, Donald, Doug and George Getman.
A funeral service for Gladys will be on Thursday, August 15, 2024, beginning with a 10:15 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home in Croghan, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan. A funeral luncheon will be held in St. Stephen’s Social Hall following her burial.
There will be no calling hours.
