HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Gail A. Ober, 80, of 39 Garrison Rd., Harrisville, died peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2012, at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur, where she had been a patient since November 2nd.
Born in Potsdam, NY, on April 18, 1932, a daughter of Arthur and Irene Clark Crump, she was educated in Pierrepont, NY, and was a 1950 graduate of Pierrepont High School.
She worked as a mother and homemaker in her earlier years, and in the late 1960’s went to work as the Head Operator on the Printing and Gluing machine for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland. She worked there until 1982 after an injury disabled her.
While living in the Star Lake area in her younger years, Mrs. Ober was an extremely active volunteer with the Star Lake Community Center, setting up and working many activities for children and teens including dances and arts & crafts projects. She also coached both boys and girls in Little League baseball and softball for many years in Star Lake, and was well known for taking in Fresh Air kids from New York City during summers and being an active volunteer with the Jerry Lewis M.D.A.
Gail had a number of hobbies and interests, and especially enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are two sons, Harold M. Ober, of Harrisville, and Michael A. Ober, of Star Lake; a daughter, Sara D. Ober, of Star Lake, two granddaughters, Misty McCarttery, of Tupper Lake, and Lisa Stiles, of Fine; five great grandchildren, Bradon Michael, Jade, Alexis, Maigen and Savannah; three brothers, James, Robert and Ronald Crump, all of Livingston, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three children; two sons, Stanton Paul Crump and Richard Leon Crump, and a daughter, Connie, who died in infancy.
A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, at 2:00 p.m, at the Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville.
A calling hour will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of her service on Saturday at the funeral home.
