CROGHAN, NY ~ Ernest J. Shaw, 80, of 222 State St., Carthage, formerly of Beartown Rd., in the Town of Croghan, NY, died on February 8, 2018, at the Croghan Adult Care Center, in the village of Croghan .
Born in the Town of Croghan, NY, on April 10, 1937, a son of Clifford and Averill Shaw, he received his early education in country school, and was graduated from Harrisville Central School.
Ernie worked for many years as truck driver and snowplow operator for the New York State Department of Transportation, based out of Harrisville, before retiring at the age of 55.
A great outdoorsman all his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved to spend time at the Shaw camp on Texas Road.
Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Shaw, and a sister, Edna Shaw.
Ernie’s funeral will be held privately at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan. Burial will be in the Old Indian River Cemetery, Indian River.
