Elizabeth Demo Obituary

WATERTOWN, NY ~ Elizabeth Ann (Liz) Demo, 84, formerly of East Howard Street, Carthage, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at te Ellis Farm Hospice Facility in Watertown where she was under the care family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Liz was born on November 18, 1934 in Croghan, a daughter of former Assemblymen Benjamin H. and Elizabeth (Keenan) Demo. She was a 1952 graduate of Father Leo Memorial High School in Croghan, and later attended the former Lady Cliff College in in Highland Falls, NY, also in the 1950's.  Continuing her education, she additionally received a certificate from the McCall’s Cooking School and worked as a personal chef for many years and also as a realtor from 1972-1982.

She was formerly a parishioner of St. Stephen's Church in Croghan, and was a long-term member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Croghan American Legion, Post 1663.

A marriage to Joseph Lofink ended in divorce.

Among her survivors is a son, J. David Lofink and wife Barbara of Carthage; daughters Amy Johnston and husband William of Watertown, Eve Lofink of Baldwinsville, and Martha (Edward “Ned”) Jones of Dexter. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kristen (Bryon) Leroux of Maryland, Jessica Johnston and fiancé, Kevin, of Fishers Landing, NY and William (Kim) Johnston of Arizona, Wyatt Lofink, currently serving in Korea, Alison Lofink of Carthage, Dylan Lofink of Baldwinsville and Ryan (Jessica) Jones of Dexter,  as well as five great-grandhcildren.

Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Helen Fredenburg Demo, of Buffalo, and Mary Alice Barbour Demo, of Massena; one former sister-in-law, Jean Simone of NJ, and former brother-in-law, Harold (Marie) Lofink of Carthage.  Her extended family includes 25 nieces and nephews and several great niece and nephews.

Four brothers, Benjamin F. Demo, William L. Demo, Rodney Demo and Eugene Demo, and two sisters, Patricia Bramhall Dustin and Ellen Wallack, a grandson, Matthew Jones, and her longtime companion, Richard Robbins, all predeceased her.

Friends may call at the Scanlon Funeral Home in Croghan on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m., also on Thursday, February 14th, at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in  Croghan, with Father Jay Seymour, celebrating.  Burial in the St Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan, will be held in the spring.
