Edna Moore Obituary
LOWVILLE, NY ~ Edna M. Moore, 86, formerly of Steepleview Courts, Croghan, died peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since 2008.
Born August 8, 1927, in Indian River, NY (Town of Croghan), a daughter of Francis P. and Margaret E. Brown Boliver, she was educated in the Indian River Country School.
She married Paul Martin on October 5, 1945, at St. Anthony’s Church in Indian River. She later married Richard Moore on May 15, 1973, in the United Methodist Church in Beaver Falls. Mr. Moore died in June, 2006.
As a teenager, Mrs. Moore helped to care for her parents and worked for area families doing housework. In the mid 1940’s, she went to work for Climax Manufacturing Company in Castorland, and later, spent much of her adult life working as a mother and homemaker taking care of her large family. In the early 1970’s, she began working as a Nurse’s Aide at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, and retired from its Central Supply Department there in the late 1980’s.
Mrs. Moore was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, and was a member of the Lowville VFW Auxilary.
Her favorite pastimes were gardening and knitting, and she also enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas W. and Joyce Martin, Brantingham, and Roger J. and Michelle Martin, Lowville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marjorie E. and Keith Korpela, Croghan, Loretta A. and Paul McDermid, Deer River, and Kay Sabo, Croghan; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Aucter, Croghan, Irene Widrick and Evelyn Yousey, both of Belfort, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Jerry A. Martin, who died in 1966, and four brothers, Herbert, Earl, Lyle and Harold Boliver.
Edna’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Main St., Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery, Belfort.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, September 3rd, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
