Douglas Grigg Obituary

HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Douglas C. Grigg, 69, of 7507 Richards Rd., Harrisville, died on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in the care of his loving family at his Lake Bonaparte home.

Born July 6, 1946 in West Carthage, NY, a son of Wilbur L. and Eleanor Kilbourn Grigg, he was a graduate of the class of 1964 at Harrisville Central School. He later was graduated from SUNY at Morrisville where he received his Associate’s Degree, and also attended Oswego State and Jefferson Community College.

A veteran, he entered the US Army on September 22, 1969 and served with the Army’s AUS ARMOR in Germany. He was honorably discharged from active duty as an SP4 on June 22, 1971.

He married Renee M. Richer on May 4, 1985 at the Harrisville Christian Church with then Pastor Ron Sampson, officiating.

During his younger years, Doug worked for the US National Park Service in Nevada at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. His principle working career was at Fort Drum where he worked primarily in Field and Indoor Range Maintenance, before retiring after a total of 30 years of service in 2008.

He was a member of the Harrisville Christian Church, the national chapter of D.A.V., and as a very good and avid golfer, was a member of Willowbrook Golf Course in Watertown where he and his family had resided for many years before moving to Lake Bonaparte.

Throughout his life, he loved to travel, especially to Florida during the winters where he enjoyed surf fishing in the ocean. He also enjoyed music of any kind and fishing at Lake Bonaparte. His greatest love was his family, especially time spent with “his girls” and his grandson, Anderson.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Renee; two dearly-loved daughters and a son-in-law, Lindsey R. and Anthony Perrone, of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Shelby J. Grigg, of Pitcairn; his cherished grandson, Anderson Perrone; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rodney L. and Helen Grigg and Norris Grigg, all of Spencerport, NY, and Gordon A. and Julia Grigg, of Watertown; his uncle, Reuben Kilbourn, of Harrisville, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, “Jake”, and his mother, Eleanor, who died two years ago to the day of Doug’s death.

A Memorial Service for Doug will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at the Harrisville Christian Church, Harrisville, with Michael Gault, Pastor, officiating. Interment in Harrisville Community Cemetery will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 9:30 a.m..
