CROGHAN, NY ~ Dorothy M. Boliver, 87, formerly of 11028 NYS Rt. 812, Croghan, passed peacefully into the hands of our Lord on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since January of this year.
Born December 10, 1928 in Croghan, NY, a daughter of Harrison and Maude Hanno Monnat, she was a 1945 graduate of Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan.
She married Robert N. Boliver on May 18, 1949 in St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan with the Rev. Amadeus Burke, OFM, officiating. Mr. Boliver died on April 16, 1997.
Dorothy worked hard all of her life as the loving mother and homemaker caring for her large family. Throughout her life she was an avid reader, and especially liked murder mysteries. She also enjoyed listening to old country and western music, challenging herself with crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and most of all, loved any times spent with her family at their many gatherings.
She was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, and for many years was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Indian River until its closing.
Surviving are her five loving children and their spouses, Alan R. (Darice) Boliver, Ricky J. (Melanie) Boliver, and Scott J. Boliver, all of Croghan, Cheryl L. (Karl) VanCour, and Rhonda L. (Paul) Campeau, both of Castorland; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Millie) Monnat and Stanley (Norma) Monnat, both of Castorland; two sisters, Louise Albertson, of Lowville, and Janice (Fred) Anderson, of Port Leyden, and a sister-in-law, Bernadette Planty, of Croghan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Karyl, who died in infancy, a son, Deron J. Boliver, who died in 1990, and a brother, Niles Monnat.
Dorothy’s funeral will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, beginning with a private Prayer Service for immediate family members at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial that all are invited to attend at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan. There will be no public calling hours.
