Donald LaChausse Obituary

CASTORLAND, NY ~ Donald F. LaChausse, 75, of Devienes Rd., Castorland, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown.

Born August 23, 1943 in Lowville, NY, a son of Jeremiah and Arizona (Cavanaugh) LaChausse, he was a 1961 graduate of Beaver River Central School. After high school, he attended welding school in New London, CT.

Following welding school, he joined the Carpenters Union Local 277 out of Watertown and worked as a carpenter and welder throughout New York state and the country on various large building construction jobs for approximately 25 years.  Throughout his career, he became known within the industry and beyond for being an extremely talented welder who could weld anything.  Upon semi-retiring, he worked locally for Boomer and Bruce Zehr until it became too difficult for him to do so many of the things he normally did following numerous back issues and surgeries.

He was a lifetime communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 277, Beaver River Fish & Game Club, Carthage Fish & Game Club and Gouverneur Fish & Game Club.

In his younger years Donnie was well known throughout northern New York as an avid and accomplished softball player who enjoyed playing on as many teams as time would allow.  He liked hunting and fishing, and especially loved raising, training and hunting with his beagles.

Survivors include four brothers; Bruce LaChausse, of Long Pond, Robert LaChausse, of Lake Bonaparte, Allen LaChausse, of Beaver Falls, and Steven LaChausse, of Croghan; two sisters, Alice Jardine, of Chandlier, AZ, and Elizabeth McAdams, of Lowville; numerous nieces and nephews, and his two very special friends, Bruce Zehr, of Beaver Falls, and John Glenn, of Castorland.

He was predeceased by two brothers, David, who died at birth, and Philip, who died in 2010.

Donnie’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor, and the Rev. Jay Seymour, Pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Lowville, concelebrating.  Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 28th, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601.
