HARRISVILLE, NY ~ David Lee Hathway, 75, of Stevensville, MD, a native of Harrisville, died at his home on October 18, 2012.

Born on January 6, 1937 in Watertown, NY, a son of the late Leon and Marion Hathway, Dave was raised in Harrisville, NY.  Dave graduated from Harrisville High School, was a 1963 graduate of the College of Forestry at Syracuse University, and served his country with the CIA and the US Army.  

Dave also served his community as Cub and Scout Master in the Salisbury, MD area.  His work experience always involved his love of the outdoors, fighting forest fires in California, log scaling in New England for St. Regis Paper Co. and working 26 years for the Maryland Department of Forest and Parks.  He began his career with the Maryland Department of Forest and Parks as District Park Supervisor of the Eastern Region, then Chief of Operations, and retired as Agency Director with the state of Maryland in 1990.

In his early years he loved to hunt, and spend time with family and friends at his hunting Camp in the Adirondacks.   Dave was an avid outdoorsman who appreciated all that nature had to offer, and was a sports fan devoted to the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.

He is survived by his beloved children Keith, Kenneth and Laurie, and their spouses, a brother Phil Hathway, of Harrisville; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and the families of Carl (Smokey) Mealus and John (Jack) Mealus.  He was predeceased by his wife, Janet Baker Hathway and his brother, Don Hathway.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, October 24th, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville, NY 13648.

Dave’s funeral service will be held also on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the  Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired United Methodist Minister, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Harrisville Community Cemetery, Harrisville.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club, Inc., PO Box 273, Harrisville, NY, 13648.
