CROGHAN/BRENTWOOD, NY ~ Daryl J. Houppert, 88, of Timberline Dr., Brentwood (Long Island), NY, formerly of Belfort, NY, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Anthony Petrucci, in Smithtown, NY, where she had been under the care of her family and Hospice.
Born February 11, 1927 in Belfort, NY, a daughter of Leroy and Nellie Branagan Bush, she received her early education in Belfort country schools and was graduated with the class of 1945 from Beaver Falls High School.
Following her graduation, Mrs. Houppert worked for Beaverite Products, Inc., in Beaver Falls for a short time before moving to Rochester, NY, where she was an employee of the Eastman Kodak Co.
She married Walter J. Houppert on August 7, 1948 in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Belfort, with the Rev. Cosmos Girard, OFM, officiating. Mr. Houppert, died on January 30, 2012.
Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Houppert moved and resided in Long Island where they both went to work for Republican Aviation in Farmingdale, and later, where Mrs. Houppert worked at the Candlewood Sewing Factory in Bay Shore, NY. Before she retired, Daryl was a Bus Matron for special education children in Brentwood.
She was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Brentwood, and was a member of the Brentwood Homemakers, where she enjoyed sewing and making crafts.
Surviving are two sons, Randy and wife, Lise Houppert, of Islip, NY, and Calvin and wife, Trish Houppert, of Maryville, TN; three daughters, Pamela and husband, Bill Thurston, of St. Johnsbury, VT, Gale and husband, Steve Kahn, of Coconut Creek, Florida, and Holly and husband, Anthony Petrucci, of Smithtown, NY; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Call, of Lowville, NY; a brother, Leroy John Bush of Croghan, NY; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Kloster, of Croghan; three brothers-in-law, Arthur (Shirley) Houppert, Russell (Judy) Houppert, and Rodney (Jane) Houppert, all of Castorland, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her loving husband of over 63 years, she was predeceased by her brother, Virgil Busch, who died in 1999.
Daryl’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, 9791 Main St., Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christina Burial from St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 2nd, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
