Cora Kloster Obituary

CROGHAN, NY ~ Cora J. “Corky” Kloster, 68, of Kirschnerville Rd., Croghan, passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where she had been admitted after being stricken the previous week.

Born May 21, 1950 in Carthage, NY, a daughter of Cleon and Irene (Adner) Camidge, she received her elementary education in Carthage schools. At the age of 13, she moved with her family to Indian River where she attended Beaver River Central School, graduating with the class of 1968. Following high school, she entered the Lewis County BOCES Licensed Practical Nurse’s Program from where she graduated in 1969 with an LPN Degree.

She married John R. Kloster on June 7, 1969 in the former St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Indian River with Fr. Severence, OFM, officiating.

Corky began her nursing career in 1969 at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville until 1972 when she took some time off to raise her children.  In 1980 she returned to the hospital as an LPN where she worked until 1985. In 1985, she began a new career as a babysitter, nurturer, and fill-in Mom for many of the area’s children ranging in age from newborns to 12 year olds for twelve years until retiring in 1997.

She was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, and was a regular volunteer for the church’s annual Lawn Festival and Hospitality Committee assisting at funeral luncheons.  She had been a member of St. Vincent dePaul’s Church and Rosary Society in Belfort until the church’s closing many years ago.  She was also a very active member of the Caring Friends of the Community in Croghan, was a member of the LPN Nurse’s Association, and was a past President and member of the Beaver River Central School’s Board of Education where she served for eleven years from 1989 until 2000.

Corky’s favorite hobbies and interests included playing Bingo, reading of any kind, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, camping at Balsam Creek, and especially helping to organize Kloster family reunions. Her greatest love was that of her family, particularly her grandchildren, for which she felt blessed.  Corky will forever be remembered for her great sense of humor and being an accomplished story teller.

She is survived by her loving husband, John, of almost 50 years; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven S. and Pamela Kloster, of Croghan; her daughter, Sherry A. Kloster, of Harrisville, NY; her four adorable grandchildren, Thomas R. Kloster, Lydia J. Kloster, Amelia R. Kloster and John F. Kloster; three brothers, Douglas Camidge, of Carthage, Dennis Camidge, of Tylerville, and Brian Camidge, of Ashland, VA; two sisters, Julia Kloster, of Croghan, and Colleen Jass, of Alden, Iowa, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Camidge, and two sisters, Trudy Mariott, and Elaine Camidge, who died in infancy.

Corky’s funeral will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery, in Belfort.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 15th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
