CARTHAGE, NY ~ Charles B. Compo, 78, of Rt. of NYS Rt. 3, Carthage, died Friday, May 19, 2023.
Born January 27, 1945 in Harrisville, NY, the son of Vernon and Margaret (Patchin) Compo, he was a graduate of Harrisville Central School.
A decorated veteran, he enlisted in 1963 in the US Marine Corps and served in the Dominican Republic and Viet Nam where he served with GdCo, H&S Bn and was wounded in action. Among other decorations and medals, he was a Purple Heart recipient and received the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 *’s. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on December 6, 1967.
He worked for the former St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet for 27 years and for a short time for Freeman Bus Company.
Charlie was a member of the Carthage American Legion, and a former member of the Carthage VFW, YMCA and Half-Moon Hunting Club in Carthage. He enjoyed anything outdoors, especially trapping, hunting and fishing.
A graveside committal service with military honors will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in Harrisville Community Cemetery, Harrisville.
