CROGHAN, NY ~ Brian J. Bush, 49, of 8261 Bush Road, Croghan, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in the Emergency Room of Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where he had been taken after being stricken earlier. He was surrounded by his always loving family at the time of his death.
Born June 9, 1966, a son of Ceyril E. and Betty A. Steria Bush, he received his early education at Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan, and later attended Beaver River Central School.
An energetic and hardworking young man, he had been employed most recently as a snow plow operator with the building and grounds maintenance division for the US Army at Fort Drum, and, prior to that, had been attached and worked for the base’s Army Lodging Division. He earlier had worked for the Black River Environmental Improvement Association in Boonville, and also had worked for Daniel Lyndaker Logging, of Castorland.
Brian was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed a simple life of country living. He especially liked hunting and four wheeling, but most of all, favored spending time with his nieces and nephews (all of whom he dearly loved), and entertaining them with his stories.
He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, and in his younger years, had served as an altar server.
Surviving are his parents Ceyril and Betty Bush, of Croghan; a brother, Ceyril (Joe) and Juanita Bush, Jr., of Brantingham, Steven Bush, of FL; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Jamie Marolf, and Lisa and Freddie Brouty, all of Croghan; nieces and nephews including Derek, Nicole, Tyler, Kimberly, Travis, Kalee, Taylor, Tyran, Trevor, Chris, Dustin, Zane, Cordel and Macie, and three great nephews, Mason, Weston, Zavier, and a great niece, Zophiah.
Brian’s funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Liturgy of the Word Funeral Service at the Croghan Mennonite Church, Kirschnerville Rd., Croghan. Spring Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 11th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan.
