Barbara Buckingham Obituary

 Brantingham, NY – Barbara H. Buckingham, 81, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, while surrounded by members of her loving family at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL. She took ill while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in Stuart.

Born September 30, 1937, in Lowville, NY, a daughter of Adrian and Grace Pate´ Henry, she was a graduate of Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan, NY. Following high school, she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown, NY, and graduated in 1958 with a Registered Nurse’s diploma.

She married Francis G. Buckingham on June 6, 1959, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan with the Rev. Reginald Baliman officiating. They were married 56 years prior to her husband’s passing. After residing in Carthage for 37 years, they moved to Brantingham in 2001 following retirement.

Barbara began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Watertown. She also worked at Meadowbrook Hospital on Long Island, NY, and Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville. Her last position as an RN was at Carthage Area Hospital, where she worked for 22 years before retiring.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glenfield, NY.

During her younger years, Barbara was an avid downhill skier and enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, painting, and kayaking. Her home was filled with her beautiful artwork and crafts. She was an active member of the Brantingham Book Club, Walkie Talkies, and the Tug Hill Quilters. She loved to travel, especially to visit and spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are five children, Michael F. Buckingham, of Baltimore, MD, Paul J. Buckingham, Croghan, NY, Teresa E. and husband, Bernie Breault, of Heuvelton, NY, Maria J. and husband, Patrick Dowling, of Sewall’s Point, FL, and Brantingham, NY, and Margaret M. Buckingham, of Brantingham, NY; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Sergott, of Utica, NY, and Carol Loconti, of Lowville, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Barbara, including a funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Glenfield, NY, with interment to follow in Brantingham Cemetery.  A celebration of life will be held in Brantingham following the services.
