LOWVILLE, NY ~ Albert “Dennis” Barbarito, 58, of Valley View Courts, River St., Lowville, died on Saturday, May 7, 2016 following a lengthy illness at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
Born on July 9, 1957, in Utica, NY, a son of Albert L. and Pearlie A. (Miller) Barbarito, he was educated at Beaver River Central School. A marriage to Gloria Rogers ended in divorce.
“Dennis” worked as a self-employed motor mechanic for most of his life. In his earlier years, he was employed at Marks Farm in Lowville, and later, as a mechanic for Suzuki North in Watertown.
As a longtime member of the Railway Historical Society of Northern NY in Croghan, he often volunteered his time and skills in repairing trains and helping in any way he could.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, camping, anything outdoors, and especially had a keen interest in railroad trains.
He is survived by his father, Albert L. Barbarito, of Greig; two sons, Albert G. (Jackie) Barbarito, of Lowville, and Jason M. (Amy) Barbarito, of Glenfield (Town of Greig); a stepson, Roy Rogers, of Sodus, NY; seven grandchildren, Caitlinn, Shauna, Chantelle, Summer, Brent, Paige and Daisy; three brothers, Jack Barbarito, of Raleigh, NC, Anthony (Kathy) Barbarito, of New Hampshire, and Michael (Michelle) Barbarito, of Croghan.
He was predeceased by his mother, Pearlie, in 1992, and his brother, Kenneth Barbarito, in 2014.
A Memorial Service for Dennis will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, officiating. Calling hours preceding the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. will be at the funeral home. Interment will be private. A funeral luncheon will held immediately following the Memorial Service at The Central Hotel, 6032 Main St., in Glenfield.
