ROME, NY ~ Anne M. Hinton, 96, of Terrace at Woodland Retirement Home, Rome, died peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at Abraham House in Rome where she had been under the care of her loving family and hospice.
Born March 23, 1924 in Gouverneur, NY, a daughter of Ambrose and Mavis (Barclay) Raymo, she eventually moved with her family to Rome and became a 1942 graduate of the former AHN (Academy of Holy Names). She went on to the Utica School of Commerce from where she graduated on March 15, 1943.
She married William M. Hinton on June 5, 1948 in St. Peter’s Church, Rome. Mr. Hinton died June 21, 1997.
Anne began her working career at the former Sears Store on Black River Blvd., working in their catalog department. She later became the Manager of the Rome Federal Credit Union where she worked for many years before retiring.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Rome and had been an active member of its Altar-Rosary Society for many years. She was also a longtime member of the Cypress Branch of Rome Twig, the Ava Dorfman Sr. Citizen Center, and was especially proud of her membership and relationships as a member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization).
Throughout her life, Anne enjoyed a variety of favorite pastimes and activities including playing cards of any kind, especially Bridge, making her renown apple and rhubarb pies, spending winters in Florida, and formal ballroom dancing with her husband, Bill, as a member of the Debonaires.
Surviving are her children including her daughter and son-in-law, Sally H. and Thomas Arcuri, and her son, William J. Hinton and partner, Trudy Valvo Covich, all of Rome; four grandchildren, Kristin (Mark) Leonard, of Rome, Shane Hinton, of Sauquoit, Austin Hinton, of Montpelier, VT, and Clarissa Borusso, of Tampa FL; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear and loving best friend of 70+ years, Cille Throop, of Rome.
In addition to her loving husband, Bill, of 49 years, she was predeceased by her grandson, Stephan P. Granacki, who died December 24, 2014, and her sister, Maxine Grimes.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Anne on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James St., Rome, with the Rev. Sean P. O’Brien, Pastor, officiating. Private Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica.
