HARRISVILLE, NY/LAKE BONAPARTE ~ Terrence E. Moore, 73, died peacefully in the presence of his family on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at his East Shore Hermitage Road home at Lake Bonaparte in Harrisville.

Born October 6, 1945, in Skowhegan, Maine, the oldest child of Elwood and Evelyn (Scott) Moore, he was a 1963 graduate of Skowhegan High School, and a 1967 graduate of Farmington College in Farmington Maine, from where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Mathematics.

He married Lynda Bartos on June 11, 1966 in Skowhegan.  Lynda, his wife of 42 years, died on December 8, 2007.

Following his graduation from college Terry taught in Skowhegan for a short time before accepting a position in 1968 as a Math Teacher at Lowville Free Academy in Lowville, NY.  While there, he also attended part time at Colgate University where he obtained 30 credit hours toward his teacher certification. He eventually became the head of Lowville Academy’s Math Department where he taught continuously until his retirement in 2001 after 33 years of service. Throughout his years as a teacher in Lowville, he and his family had resided in Lowville, Castorland, Croghan, and Lake Bonaparte.

He married Beverly N. Buckingham on August 6, 2011 in St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan.

He was a member of the NYS Teachers Association, Lowville and Carthage Elks, Pine Pond Hunting Club in Tupper Lake, and White Birch Hunting Club in Croghan.

Over the course of his life, he enjoyed shooting trap, hunting, and loved boating and being an avid fisherman, particularly on Lake Bonaparte and in many trout ponds in Maine.  Terry will especially be remembered for his unique story-telling abilities, attention to detail, being a passionate New York Giants fan, following any of Syracuse University sports, and above all, for his unwavering love for his family.

Surviving are his loving family, including his wife, Beverly; four sons, Stephen T. and wife, Michele Moore, of Castorland, NY, Scott M. and wife, Susan Moore, of Pacific Grove, CA, Darren L. and wife, Wendy Moore, of Moravia, NY, and Derek A. Moore and companion, Kristin Vogt, of Copenhagen, NY; two step daughters, Sarah and husband Marc, Tornatore, of Reston, VA, and Megan Buckingham, of Albany, NY; eleven grandchildren and two step grandchildren; two sisters, Lisa and husband, Neil LeBlanc, of Madison, ME, and Nikki and husband, Ed Burgess, of Skowhegan, ME; brother-in-law Richard and wife, Beth Bartos, of Winchester, NH, and sister-in-law, Linda Moore, of Winslow, Maine.

He was predeceased by his brother, Elwood “Chip” Moore.

Terry’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Scanlon Funeral Home in Croghan, with Nate Zehr and Tom Yousey, officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisville Community Cemetery in Harrisville. A funeral luncheon will be held in the downstairs social hall of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, at the completion of his burial and committal service in Harrisville.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 1st, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis Co. Friends of Hospice, or to either the Harrisville or Croghan Volunteer Fire Departments.

I was fortunate to spend many summer days and nights at the Moore household as a child and relished many tales spun by Terry. In a house full of misfit football fans, Terry rose above w/ his love for the Giants. His muppet-like smile was constant and it seemed to extend as wide as the fish that miraculously got away from his expert angling skills. I enjoyed seeing him at Cross Country & track meets, having a chance to not only cheer for his children but his grandchildren as well. The positive impact he had both of them is evident in all of their current lives. I offer my sincere condolences to Bev, Steve & the entire family.

Terry will be remembered for cheering on the boys and girls at the Beaver River XC meets. The joy on his face watching Taylor and Hunter run was priceless. We will continue to keep you all in our prayers in the coming weeks.

Terry was a classmate at Skowhegan Area High School in Maine. We were not only good friends but also former brothers-in-law. After he moved to New York, I joined the Maine Army National Guard, spending a few summer camps at Camp/Fort Drum. On my off weekend I would visit with Terry and family for a fun-filled weekend. He was truly a family man who enjoyed life and treated everyone as a friend. Our prayers are with all the family!

Bev, Steve, Scott, Darren, and Derek and families,
We were so saddened to hear about Uncle Terry's passing. It doesn't seem that long ago that we all saw each other, but I fear it has been too long. I have such fond memories of growing up and sharing holidays and barbecues all together. Please know that we are praying for peace for all of you in this difficult time. Hugs and kisses.
Dale, Annie, Chelsea, and Savana.

My sincerest condolences to the Terry Moore family. I first remember Terry as my Junior Varsity football coach at LACS in the fall of 1968. I remember him being able to punt the football for a very distance. He was a fun coach to have. I never had him as teacher. My parents Beverly & Sheldon Daggett would have met Terry and the other Maine teachers when they came to Lowville. My father Sheldon Daggett & Lee Fickbohm ran the Pine Pond Hunting club near Tupper Lake, New York. I got to see another side of Terry when he joined the Pine Pond Hunting Club. He always had a joke and was very enjoyable to be around & to hunt with. I will always remember his big grin and smile.
He definitely was one of the good guys and his passing will surely be noted by those whose lifes he touched in so many ways.
