HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Verna A. Foley, 80, of 8212 NYS Rt. 3, Harrisville, died peacefully in the comfort of her family on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Carthage Area Hospital, Carthage.

Verna was born December 24, 1935 in Harrisville, NY, the daughter of the late Gordon J. and Janette Kilbourn LaParr.  She was a graduate of the class of 1953 at Harrisville High School and later attended the Watertown School of Commerce.

She married John E. “Jack” Foley on January 8, 1954 in St. Mary’s Church in Richmond, IN.  Mr. Foley, a former Postmaster in Harrisville, died on August 28, 2000.

Verna worked primarily as a mother and homemaker for much of her life taking care of her large family.  She also worked alongside her parents for many years assisting them with the operation of the former LaParr’s Restaurant in Harrisville.

Throughout her life, Verna took pleasure in many activities including competitive bowling in various Harrisville Women’s Leagues. She very much liked hunting, traveling throughout the US with her husband Jack following his retirement, Tuesday night card games at Kilbourn’s, and more recently, traveling to some of the area’s casinos.  She also was an avid reader who thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle, and above all, loved her family, especially time spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her five loving children, Laurie J. (Douglas) Watson, Terry A. Finley, and Craig S. Foley, all of Harrisville, Patti L. Foley, of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Scott F. (Judy) Foley, of Green Brier, AR; ten grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Verna’s funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 12 Noon from St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Harrisville, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.  There will be a funeral luncheon in the church’s social hall following her graveside committal service.

There will be no calling hours.

Patti and family, Even though I haven't seen you in years, I know how difficult it is to lose our mothers. I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and extend my heartfelt sympathy and prayers. My parents both liked you and appreciated you very much when you were my Dad's respiratory therapist. I hope you are doing well as you deserve it. I still
remember some of our fun days.
