GLENFIELD, NY ~ Kenneth Everett Updegraft, Jr., 68, died on Friday, January 16, 2015 at his home in Cancun, Mexico.

Born September 30, 1946, in Fort Meade, MD, he was the son of Kenneth E. and Mary Ann Vrklan Updegraft.  

He married Florence M. Campeau on 5 June 1971 at St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, NY.

In 1964, Kenneth graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA, from American University in Washington, DC in 1967 with a B.S.B.A. degree, and in 1968, received his M.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  In 1971, he received his LL.B degree from the University of Virginia Law School where he was the Articles Editor of their Law Review, and member of their Order of the Coif.

Kenneth was employed with Jones Day Law Firm in Cleveland, Ohio from 1971 until his retirement in 2001.

In his youth, Kenneth was very active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  Throughout his life, he was an avid stamp collector, reader, Lionel model train enthusiast and enjoyed driving his antique cars, duck hunting, traveling and spending time at his winter home in Cancun, Mexico.  

Surviving are his wife, Florence Campeau Updegraft, of Glenfield; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah E. Updegraft and Paul Null, of Media, PA; his son, Daniel K. Updegraft, of Miami, FL; grandchildren Henry and Anica Null, of Media, PA; a sister, Kathryn E. Updegraft, of Arlington, VA, and his mother-in-law, Eleanor Campeau, of Croghan, NY.

He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth Everett and Mary Ann Updegraft.

A funeral Mass for Kenneth will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan, NY, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.

Donations in Kenneth’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are with Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan.

My deepest condolences to the entire family and all who loved him.

Ken was my good friend at Jones Day and for many years after his retirement.

I miss him.
