William M. Bango, 86, of Harrisville, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse where he had been a patient for a short time. He was in the company of family.
William was born March 31, 1937 in Harrisville, a son of the late John and Amy (Ralph) Bango. He attended Harrisville Central School and began working at the paper mill prior to joining the ARMY Air Borne. Upon his Honorable Discharge, William returned to work at the paper mill before becoming employed at St. Joe’s Mines. A marriage to Elizabeth Rice ended in divorce. Later he joined the local IBEW and Laborers Union working throughout the North Country retiring in 1999.
William loved being outdoors, cutting trees and burning brush with longtime companion Joanne Holly. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing and doing anything he could outdoors. He was a house flipper before it was made cool. His most treasured time was spent with family and he always looked forward to the yearly family reunion.
William is survived by his life partner, Joanne Holly, four children, Dominic (Gina) Bango, Valerie (Garry) Butts, Victoria (Jeff) Miller and Jennifer (Steve) Rose; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Nancy, Emma and Pauline, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents John and Amy, William was predeceased by an infant son James, and siblings, John in infancy, Phillip, Frank, Ralph, John, Rose, Floria, Victoria, Angeline and Chrissy and a grandson Jesse.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the St. Francis of Solanus Cemetery, Harrisville followed by a Celebration of Life at the Harrisville Fire Hall.
