HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Florence Evelyn Bechler, 93, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 in the Lowville Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since 2016. She had previously resided on Mill Street in Harrisville.
Born at Goose Pond, a short distance from Harrisville, NY on September 7, 1930, a daughter of Lewis and Winifred Ford Bechler, she was educated in country schools as well as receiving her secondary education in Harrisville schools.
In her younger years, Florence worked at the former St. Regis Paper Company in Harrisville. She was also a loving caretaker for her younger family after her mother’s death.
Always a hard worker, she especially enjoyed baking and vegetable gardening.
Surviving is her only niece, Tori Mashaw, of Harrisville, and seven nephews, Robert Bechler
(who lived with his aunt for many years), of Harrisville, Patrick Bechler, of Phoenix, AZ, Phillip Bechler, of Cadyville, NY, Raymond Bechler, of Sackets Harbor, Leonard Bechler, of Eureka, CA, Scott Bechler, of Warrenton, VA and Steven Bechler, of Cleveland, NY.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Bechler, who was killed during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge, and Donald Bechler, and her only sister, Doris Bechler.
A graveside committal service and burial will take place in the spring in Pitcairn Cemetery on a date and time to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
