Croghan – Claude O. “Cloggs” Davoy, 89 passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville, he was in the company of family.

He was born April 30, 1928 in Croghan, the son of the late Claude O. and Hilda (Andre) Davoy. He attended Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan. In the late 40’s and early 50’s Claude was a milkman; he worked as a logger / truck driver for Gerald Farney and was a machinist for Climax Manufacturing. On January 9, 1950, Claude was married to E. Lucille Hunter at St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan; witnesses were Wilbur Davoy and Bessie Bezanilla. Claude worked for 21 years at Latex Fibre as a paper machine operator. In 1973 he and Lucille operated Davoy’s Custom Meat Cutting business on the Briot Rd until 1992 when David and Annette Davoy took over. At that time, Claude began working for Paul Lyndaker Excavating.

Claude was a member of the Beaver River Fish & Game Club and Jake’s Pond Hunting Club as well as a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church. Claude was an outdoorsman and avid hunter and trapper, especially of beaver. He shot trap on the Beaver River Trap Team for many years and took trips to Canada for 20 years fishing with his sons, grandsons and friends.

Claude is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lucille of Croghan; five children, Sandra L. Buckingham of Belfort; Michael O. Davoy of Beaver Falls; Stephen J. (Cindi) Davoy of Lowville; Gary A. (Lisa) Davoy of DePauville and David M. (Karin Gresslar) Davoy of Croghan; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Alma Rose Boshart of Lowville; Eleanor Marie Campeau of Croghan and Patricia Golden of Croghan, a sister-in-law Clara Davoy, nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by four brothers; Wilbur, Paul, William and James Davoy; three sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Roberts, Kathleen Aucter and Martha Buckingham.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. Spring interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan.

The family would like to express how grateful they are to the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville as they provided such wonderful care to Claude and made them all feel like family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Croghan Food Pantry or to the Resident Activities Fund at the Sunset Nursing Home.

We are honored that we were able to care for him in his last days, though he was only with us for a short period of time he was still a part of our Sunset family.
