HARRISVILLE ~ June A. Cole, 76, formerly of Harrisville, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carthage, where she had resided.
Born November 25, 1932, in Harrisville, a daughter of Clifton and Albertine Hathway Weaver, she was educated in Harrisville Schools.
She married Bruce G. Whitford in 1952, in Gouverneur who later died in a mining accident in 1957.
She married Lloyd E. Cole on June 11, 1959, in Harrisville. Mr. Cole died on January 12, 2006.
June was a full time homemaker who also worked for a number of families in the Harrisville area during the late 1950’s and 1960’s helping them with their household chores and babysitting.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, cutting wood and especially anything outdoors. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey G. Whitford, Star Lake, and William H. and Cynthia Whitford, Gouverneur; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda J. Vogel, Rome, Ann A. and Timothy Cooper, Oswegatchie, Carolyn J. and Stewart Hooley, Lowville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Anna Weaver, of Harrisville, Dale “Peter” Weaver, of White River Junction, VT, and Allen and Ann Weaver, of Boonville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Gloria St. Peter, White River Junction, VT, Sharon Phillips, Star Lake and Marcia and David Terry, Star Lake; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son Earl B. Whitford; three brothers, Rick, Jack and Clifton Weaver, and two sisters, Rosie DeForge and Betty Holcomb.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday beginning with a 9:45 am prayer service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Harrisville, followed by a 10:30 funeral service at the United Methodist Church in Harrisville with the Rev. Frances K. Hemstreet, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Harrisville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday at Scanlon Funeral Home, Harrisville.
Memorial Donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Harrisville.
