Joseph D. Lancor

HARRISVILLE, NY ~ Joseph D. Lancor, 82, of 14181 State St., died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where he had been a patient since September 1st.

Born in Harrisville, NY, on October 5, 1928, a son of Joseph “Roy” and Marion Laide Lancor, he was graduated from Harrisville High School in 1948.

He married Virginia A. Fratini on May 28, 1960, in St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Canastota, NY.

Following high school, he went to work for Natural Dam Paper Mill in Gouverneur and also worked for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation at Benson Mines in Star Lake. He later went to work for the Newton Falls Paper Company in Newton Falls, and remained there until his retirement in 1991 after spending nearly 40 years with the company.

He was a member St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Harrisville, the Harrisville Rod & Gun Club and was a former member of the Silver Dawn Hunting Club.

Among his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, reading, watching cowboy movies and traveling to the Akwesasne Casino in Hogansburg with his wife.

Surviving besides his wife of 51 years, are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tracy J. and Angie Lancor, and Scott F. Lancor, all of Harrisville; 4 granddaughters; 3 great grandsons; a sister, Margaret Chamberlain, of Canton; a brother, Neil Lancor, of Watertown, and several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, Richard, Robert and Jack Lancor, all predeceased him.

Joe’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., from St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville, with the Rev. Robert L. Decker, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Harrisville.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Harrisville Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are with the Scanlon Funeral Home, Harrisville.
