CROGHAN ~ Harold John Kloster, 65, of 9803 Erie Canal Rd., Croghan, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at his home where he was under the care of his loving family.

Born January 25, 1944, in Lowville, NY, a son of Francis G. and Dora Zehr Kloster, he was educated at Beaver River Central School.

In 1960, he went to work for the former Hoffman & Dudo Cheese Plant in Dadville. In 1967, he became employed by the former J.P. Lewis Company in Beaver Falls, where he worked until retiring in 1989 as a machine tender. While at J.P. Lewis, he also served as President of the Local 1799 AFLCIO Papermaker’s Union.

Harold was a lifelong communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan.

Throughout his life, he was a NASCAR and New York Giants fan, liked watching movies, and hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed attending family get-togethers, spending time with his family and friends, and particularly being with his dog, “Buddy”.

Surviving are his four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Eugene D. and Mary Kloster, John R. and Cora Kloster, Francis G. Kloster, all of Croghan, and Dennis C. and Doris Kloster, of Castorland; his very special friends, the Michael and Claire Davoy family, of Castorland, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his sister, Irene Lashbrooks, and his niece, Susan Houppert, both who died in 2004, and a nephew, Jeffrey Kloster, who died in 1985.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan.

Harold’s funeral will be on Friday, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass from St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery, Belfort.

Memorial donations may be made to either Lewis Co. Friends of Hospice or to the Cancer Society.

I’m sorry for your loss. Harold was such a sweet and special man. I know that he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

Since I couldn’t make it up for his funeral I wanted to let you all know I am thinking about you all and love and miss you too… It sure will be hard to come home now and not go down and see him and/or have him up for dinner… But he is up there in heaven with is parents, Mom, Sue and Jeff… all playing canasta.. He sure will be missed….. But he gave a good fight and was stronged willed.. Remember the good ol days….. I sure will………… Rest in peace now Harold, you will be greatly missed by the Lyndaker family in N.C.
